Ban

Legalizing drugs - cannabis in particular was the topic of discussion with a friend. People will overdose and create problems for society and family , suffer ill health .....

Points presented in favor of legalizing cannabis -

People hoard money through illegal means - can we ban money
People overeat and get obese - suffer ill health, families get affected - do we ban food
Drug sale is legalized in Amsterdam for personal consumption - if the above logic holds good, is everyone there a drug addict?

Anything done in excess does lead to problems and with all aspects of life there will be a section that carries things to extreme, therefore banning something is not the answer.

Moral policing is prevalent all over the world, just the limits are different!
In UK, a huge debates is on if pubs are to be allowed to run for 24 hrs. Lot of ppl express views against that.
Whereas in india, Anna Univ has put up a dress code for students.

So Banning or Not Banning is not going to change a thing! Only awareness will do good, if any :)

Yes, I kinda agree with TJ on this. While, we cannot bring things into control by imposing/not imposing bans, we can try to spread the awareness of the problem it brings. The latter is a more constructive approach which tries to solve the problem.

Bans can be understood in as much as they are intended to keep the poorer and more vulnerable sections from falling a prey to self-destructive habits. But ban can never be the real solution to any ill - it has to be through inculcation of awareness and self regulation.Abstinence advocated by some religions serve the same purpose. The more evolved a people, the less need for rules regulating their behaviour.

- can't agree more. But Banning could atleast reduce the possibility of exposure.

I concur! But, i would say banning is necessary to an extent as otherwise there won't be any direction to follow upon right!!

I am all for banning. Too late friday night can't explain my reasons (not that i am more eloquent at other times either) but I would hate to see cannabis or any other drug available freely
