Power and prerogative

What to say and what not to say it largely determined by the inherent power structure in all institutions - be it marriage, family, school, college, work place.

Sick, sick, sick ..................

Bosses can hold perceptions of employees (use the quote "perception is reality" - which in my opinion is totally wrong) and voice them, use these perceptions to destroy self esteem of their poor subordinates - BUT - an employee is not supposed to talk about his perceptions of his boss anywhere ......

Adults can say anything they want about children - but children are not supposed to say anything about adults ??????????

Wish there is a world where these power structures don't exist and freedom of expression is practiced in totality.

Aren't there slow but quite perceptible shifts in these power structures? At the workplace, subordinate and peer reviews are being introduced. Definitely the power balance is changing in marriages today even in India. And I think parents are becoming more sensitive to the way they speak to and about children and are becoming receptive of the signals that children send out to them - one positive result of all this pop psychology that magazines dish out.
I'd think we might yet see the world you are talking about.

I am not surprised at your observation. I myself have had occasions to think on those lines. Hopefully things will change. And as Usha says, there are encouraging indications of this at least in some places. May be you could look at my blog for my Children's Day thoughts...
